Play Ball!

This sports season Mike wanted to try baseball and sit out a season of soccer.
Since I hear Spring Ball around here is pretty serious stuff,
but Fall Ball is more relaxed and not to mention much cheaper...
we were ok with this.
He is always very excited to "take the field"
and by "take the field" I mean "chase his teammates" onto the field.
I know this may make me sound like a "bad mom"
but I am very surprised at  how "well he does!"
And by "how well he does" I mean
he has not been hit in face, cried, or sat down on the field!
He has a really "good arm"
and that's exactly what I mean.
and his swing is coming along!
If you know my Mike in real life, you know he is really laid back,
always ready for fun and jokes, and loves life to the absolute fullest...
but has no concept of hurry, fast, speed, or hustle.
As a matter of fact, you would think asking him to run the bases
was like asking me to run a 5k... lol
My favorite part, is when he waves and blows kisses
 as he "rounds third"...
and by "rounds third" I mean strolls past third!

By the end of the "game"...
and by "game" I mean three innings...
he is hot, tired, hungry, and ready to watch a movie!
I am pretty sure he is "a natural" ... and by "natural" I mean
naturally adorable and a blast to watch!

Look out Kindergarten

... here comes Mike!

I just can't believe the day is here... less than 24 hours I will be dropping my baby off at school... real school, that is!  As a former Kindergarten teach myself... I always found it a tad dramatic when moms would hover in my room and cry.  I remember one mom even carried her son into my clssroom that first day and NOT because he was scared or upset, but because she was!  Yup, I am sure I rolled my eyes and sighed (on the inside) But now it is my turn...

I think I must be the most selfish mom in the world as the biggest tear jerker is the thought that someelse gets to be with him for 7 hours a day and I don't... some else gets to hear is silly jokes, watch his eyes light up when he eats yummy food, read him stories, tie his shoes, tell him to be quiet, and convince him he can do hard things... sigh.

I woke up the other morning to this scene at our breakfast table...
yup, my baby had made himself breakfast and was happily playing a video game...
I know he is ready... I know I am not,
but I will adjust, I will learn, I know I too, can do hard things!

The Graduate

My baby graduated from Pre School!
I was kinda sad and very proud at the same time!
Here is a very small snippet of his program...
Blogger doesn't like the long version... but we sure enjoyed it!

For the Boys

Mike is all boy these days.
He is loud, fast, messy, and
makes the most amazing sound effects!
His helicopter and machine gun sounds will make you duck and cover!
One thing I love about boys is how a $2.99 bag of army men
can seem like the best gift ever!
And lucky for us, mom is not the only creative parent in the house...
Daddy and Mike made a fort board to play army.
He used a scrap piece of wood for the base and
then they used wood glue and 1/2 inch blocks to design two forts.
It was perfect because Mike could work right along side daddy and
it dried really fast, so the wait time was manageable!
All you mom's of 4 year old boys will know exactly why that is perfect!
For two hours they played and played.
And later Mike played by himself some more!

First Day

I think we are the last ones to start school this year, but it was worth the wait! The weather was perfect and Mike (and mommy) had plenty of time to prepare for the big day! Mike will be going to preschool two days a week from 9 to 2. It is bitter sweet for me... I will miss him and feel sad he is getting so close to 'real' school, but I know he needs to build relationships, mature, and get all those pre-reading skills down before next year.
He was thrilled... thrilled with his shark backpack, thrilled to bring a lunch, thrilled with his new clothes, and most thrilling of all... FRIENDS!
We found 'THE' backpack at the Pottery Barn Outlet (yup, 20 minutes from our new house- come visit!) It caught me by surprise how much I under estimated Mike going to school would effect Addy. When we were taking pictures she ran and got her (empty) lunch box and wanted to sit by Mike for pictures. My favorite pic... it just screams first day of school. Poor kiddo with all the poses! Aw, Addy trying to get in the picture and be like her big brother. I am going to miss this kid all day today... who will tell me poop jokes, fetch diapers, and keep sister in line. I do know his teachers are lucky ladies!

A Boat, Shark, Whale Party

Another catch up post! On May 28th we celebrated fours years of Mike by throwing him a 'boat, shark, whale party'... not an ocean or pirate or even just a shark party... it had to be a 'boat, shark, whale party'! The party was at a local park that we just love! All of our friends and family came- it was so much fun! I did not get a lot of decoration pictures like I normally try to do... since I am a detailed party planner, but I did get a few.
This was the best of many attempts to get a cute sibling shot of the Fey kids in their party gear. One of my favorite details is always the attire!
Grandma, once again, made an impressive cake. This was pretty much all Mike could talk about for weeks... HIS shark cake. We searched many websites and books, but this is the one he really wanted!
I used the same magnetic easel board I used for Addy's party to display some fun photos of the birthday boy. This then became a super easy scrapbook page after the party.
Lala found a shark pinata that was not too scary and doubled as a center piece at one of the tables.
These goodie bags we also used as part of the center pieces.
We started the party off with the breaking of the pinata. The park did not allow us to use a tree to hang him up, so daddy had to step up and be our tree. (Don't tell him, but we were all a tad disappointed we did not get any prize winning video)
The kids were so nice about picking up the candy and prizes... nobody got hurt wrestling for it and everyone got their fair share. I was kinda worried about how it might go.
Here is Mike with his three bestest friends... his cousins!
My big boy with his dream cake!
Here is a shot of almost all the party goers waiting for cake!
Opening presents was a big deal this year. Mike truly felt special with each gift and still remembers who gave him exactly what gift.
His Aunt Amy is pretty much the only person who can give him clothes and still get an excited reaction. She really knows his style (wink).
I like this picture because you can see how sincere his cousins and friends were while he was opening gifts. Of course you may also notice his pesky little sister was not around... that may have been a problem- ha!
Lala and Pops gave him a great scooter... it has three wheels so he is already really good at it!
Afterwards, we all walked over to this natural swim hole at the park.
Mike had the time of his life!
A month and a half later he still talks about swimming here with all his friends and cousins... 'member mommy? member?'
I was pretty happy I did remember to get my own photo with the birthday boy! It sure was a happy, happy day and a party that will go down in Fey family history for sure!

Happy Birthday!

Oh, Mikey I can't believe you turn four today! and it seems like just yesterday,
you came into our lives and changed us forever.

Thank goodness the more things change,

the more you like them to stay the same...

like cuddling and lovin' on mama!
long, peaceful naps...
bedtime baths to bring sweet dreams...
ready to go for a ride (as long as it is a short one)...
hanging with your hero...
watching t.v., sug as a bug...
looking handsome as ever!
enjoying every bite...
and living everyday with a smile on your face...
Just remember, Michael Jeffrey...
Happy, Happy Birthday!
Thank you for the best four years of our lives!

Let's go make something,

Kristy
