Potty Training Highs and Lows

This little cutie has just turned 27 months!  And after several people agreeing she is ready to potty train, we prepared to say good bye to our diaper days...
thus officially ending the baby years, as the diaper bag can now be retired.
I entered the process, well frankly arrogant... after all I potty trained my son before he was 2 1/2 in 48 hours... piece of cake!
I mean isn't it a fact that girls train easier then boys?  Hump!
Mommy's High:  The hunt!  I was so excited to take Addy out to get all our special gear for our big weekend!  It was girl's day and we spared no expense, treated ourselves to popcorn AND a Slurpee at Target, and even did it all in the rain!

Mommy's Low:  After standing in the book section at Target for over 15 minutes debating myself over buying the only English potty book they had that was a whopping $8.50... I said, "what the hell, ya only potty train your daughter once!" Right? and bought it, only to discover just two out of the 8 buttons worked! UGH!
Daddy's High:  "Cha-ching!  Just the mere thought of saving all that money led to day dreams of my very own boat!"
Daddy's Low:  "Being handed a turd at the dinner table by my sweet little girl.  Not sure who was more shocked... Addy because it fell out of her bum or me,  because it wasn't chicken! (for real!)"

Mikey's High:  "Sister's potty reward came in the form of Cherry M&Ms-
which she HAS to share... woo hoo!"

Mikey's Low: "I just wanted to divert attention back to me with a silly little show. While making everyone laugh, my arm got stuck in a kitchen chair... to make it worse part of my show required I wear a silly bow in my hair-dumb idea, just look at me! and to make ever more worse before helping me out, my own mother ran to get the camera and was  laughing so hard she shed tears of her own!
and she says she loves me? It just doesn't get lower than that!"
Addy's High:  "Hmmm, not sure I had one!"
Addy's Low:  "What? No Thomas the Train panties?  What about Goofy? Spiderman?
  So not fair!"
More lows for Addy:  "After begging for a diaper over and over, my mom still forced me into panties!  Nag! Nag! Nag!  If I ever have to hear "need to go potty?" again it will be too soon!  How about trying to make a master piece on the back porch with your sidewalk paints, only to have it washed away by your own pee!
Or worse, slipping over and over again in your own pee
as you're running across the wood floors to make it to the potty!"
"Listen up mommy, I am too smart and too cute to do anything on anyone elses terms...
after all I am YOUR daughter!"

Yup, we gave up... we will try again in three months!  No mommy of the year here, girls!

  1. That was hysterical! I will say I did the same thing with Elizabeth. We tried for 2 weeks and it was horrible. After 2 weeks we gave up, waiting a couple of months, and she got it within a day. I think she just needed to get the hang of how to hold it, so I'm glad we tried it and stopped. It made it so much easier when we tried it again.

  2. That really was funny. I think Daddy's low was the lowest. At dinner?! Oh my, that's too much! I think aborting that mission and starting again later sounds like a good idea.
And Mikey, it was terrible and horrible at the time but he will appreciate that his Mama took so many pictures when he gets older.
Now everyone, go enjoy some M&Ms!

  3. I am dying of laughter. Thanks for sharing. My baby girl is only 13.5 months, but there is SO much pressure!! =) This helps me relax when thinking about the future.

  4. That was hilarious!!! Thanks for the laughs!Sounds like Addy has a mind of her own! Thank goodness she's so darn cute (makes the poo in the hand easier to handle...or maybe nothing makes that easier to handle).

  5. I have to say my daughter was easier to potty train. My son is 3, we finally just stuck him in big boy underwear during the day. He waits all day to do his business in his diaper when we get him ready for bed. I swear, I'm ready to pull my hair out, but not giving up!!!

  6. I loved the part about her drawings being washed away! HA!

We are currently working on potty training our 26 month old. She will wear the pull ups and pee in the potty ONLY if you ask her to go every hour. And when she goes on the potty, she too gets M&MS too - cheering that "me pee" to every memeber of the family. BUT if you don't ask her, she'll go in her pull ups (which the hearts go away). So we have progress too with her. My first daughter was a breeze and was potty trained by 2 & 1/2. Don't know if we'll make it by 2 & 1/2 with my youngest. Can't wait to be diaper free!!!!! =o)

  8. Too funny! Cute pics! I think my mommy low this week was unloading the washing machine to find a handful of poop at the bottom that was in a pair of panties I washed but somehow missed. Definitely had to reawash that set. Potty training sucks!

  9. I cannot even get over that picture of Mikey! Oh my gosh...such greatness. And Addy's washing away the painting, the poo at dinner, I could go on and on. There are not enough words to express how much I enjoy the Fey family's highs and lows!!

  10. I'd love to know how you potty trained your son in 48 hrs bc we have been at it for a week now!! He realizes when he has to pee only when he is naked and our house smells like a porta potty no matter how much I clean!!
