Scripture Chalkboard

For a long time I have had an odd,

 open space near our back door.

I knew I wanted something

personal and purposeful to fill it...

Then my sister posted on FaceBook that she

 had received some old cabinet doors...

She used two to make chalkboards

and I just knew one would be perfect in this space.

This chalk paint came from Walmart...

yup, Walmart!

And this very affordable chalkboard paint

 came from Hobby Lobby.

It took several coats...

which around this house

 meant several days to finish!

Did you know if you press

 wet paint brushes in a baggie,

they will keep for days without

drying out?

Yup, it works!

This adorable arrow sign

was also a great find at Hobby Lobby.

I do wish it pointed to our backyard,

as that truly is our "happy place"

but pointing to the kitchen works too, right?

We are using our chalk board to write out scriptures.

I just love it!

The kids are really into watching the scripture change!

Here is a list of scriptures we will

be working on this summer... 

So one project on my

"To- Finish" list is done!

On to the next...

Summer Bucket List

This idea has been floating my head ever

since I saw the new paper line from

Simple Stories: Summer Fresh. 

It was inspired by two of my favorite past projects...

 my gift bucket and our fall to-do list clipboards...

but this one is my favorite!

The tin bucket is from Hobby Lobby...

I used mt Cricut to cut the vinyl for the title.

I did consider Modge Podge-ing on paper letters or even stickers,

but in the end the vinyl worked great!

 I used scrap ribbon, fabric, and twine to embellish the handle.

At first I did the entire handle and was too much,

 so I did it heavy on one side and

then just a bit on the other... Ahh, much better!

The clothes pins ar made from bamboo...

they have a really nice color to them naturally,

but I had to add stripes of Summer Fresh paper!

On the reverse, I used a red pen to write out

 what we wanted to do this summer.

I also considered running the strips through the printer

 like I did before with the fall clips,

but in the end I liked the handwritten...

kinda relaxed version.

TAKE DADDY TO LUNCH

I have a boredom jar (that will match) in the works...

that will include to the little things we will do more than once!

 The summer fresh line comes with the most adorable tags...

It was hard to choose just one

to dangle from the handle, but I managed!

I have invited a group of girls over for craft night

and we are all going to make one!

Scrappy Hair Clip

I saw these fabric hair clips somewhere on-line, but could not find a tutorial... so, what is a mom to do?... figure it out... Here is how I did it...

First, I used my piking shears to cut many, many strips of fabric. These are about 1/2 an inch wide and four inches long.

The more you cute the fuller it looks. I tried washing one to see if fraying them would make them fuller ... nope.

Next, stack all the strips in random order, right side up. Make sure to spread them out like this... you can do this after you thread it, but it is easier this way.

I used three ply matching thread and tied my knot about three inches from the end, so that I would have plenty of thread to tie my finishing knot later.

So thread each strip onto your needle. It will not be exact center of each strip, but that is fine... hmmm, better even!

And again, stick the needle back through all the strips making about a 1/4 of an inch stitch.

Using the tail tie it all off. Next, pinch the center where your knot is to create a 'base'.

Stitch through the base several times and again knot it off. This is where you can hot glue or sew on a clip or pin. When you turn it over it looks like this... fun, huh? Addy sure thinks so! Maybe I should call them the Happy Scrappy Hair Bow!

Cute Hair Thingies

I have been playing around with my fabric scraps and hair clips lately. I have started keeping my little glue gun plugged in at all time- you know for crafting emergencies. I keep it in a small flower pot, so it can't hurt anyone, (great idea, huh?) So it has been nice to make something in just a few minutes when I can sneak into The No-No Room. Here are a few of my creations... These are big bobby pins with little fabric flowers and fancy buttons in the middle. Here is one in my messy mommy hair. I felt very silly trying to get a picture of myself with one in, but I managed... sort of! Here are a few bigger flower bobby pins. I like to throw on in my messy bun to make me feel... ummm... complete? Well, it is cheaper than therapy, right girls? Again, me trying get a picture of a headband I made with vintage flowers and buttons. Maybe in my new house I will find a sweet new neighbor who can help me take better photos or I better start training Mikey now! Some bows with scrap ribbon and another vintage flower. I have also been back to one of my favorite crafts... applique! I also, made a super cute scrappy clip for Addy and I remembered to take step by step photos... so I will try to get that tutorial posted real soon. Luckily all the sun and swimming we have been doing makes for longer naps!

Felt Flower

Look what I made! I used a think felt unlike the one in the tutorial, but I think she turned out lovely and I am gonna make more... many. many. more.
